Hello all--
I have an NVidia 6600 graphics card with which I have had problems with before---my capture programs and Windows Media Player would freeze up when I went to capture or play video. I removed the driver that came with the NVidia card and downloaded the driver from NVidia's site. Everything worked wonderful. Then something changed and I was back so the same problem. I have no idea what caused the change and I have undone everything I can think of. Strangely, Windows System Restore quit working also, for I tried a system restore. Now, I could play video in HP's Image Zone. I thought that was odd.
I went through the same motions--removing all Nvidia software and downloading the latest driver from their site. Now, my desktop shows artifacting and I still can't capture or play video with WMP. But, I can capture when I have all NVidia software removed, albiet it's choppy. Same with WMP--it plays, but choppy. And I have no artifacting without the driver. I am totally stumped. Do I pull the card and try it in a different slot? Will XP have a problem with that? Will it reassign the IRQ or do I have to convince it to? I've gotten good advice from you all about this when the problem first showed up. Any ideas??
Thanks

Change your video driver to a standard plug and play or generic driver, then reboot. You can use a program such as driver cleaner http://www.softpedia.com/get/Security/Secure-cleaning/Driver-Cleaner.shtml to ensure all of the nvidia drivers are gone. Now would also be a good time to uninstall any codec packs if you have used any. Then reboot and attempt installing the latest nvidia drivers (or even reinstall the older version that worked for you the last time).

Thanks Kritter!
I will give this a try---maybe I can avoid that reformat which was my next step.
Thank you SO much for posting. I have really been at the end of my rope.
