  1. And here it comes.. the revolution. I was blown away when I looked at the videos on the site and saw how this operates:
    www.apple.com/iphone

It is incredible, the simplicity and sophistication. My only complaints are the high price and small storage size (4GB and 8GB), but I hope a widescreen ipod (maybe with wifi internet support) is not far behind

I'll wait. They won't be out until June. Plus its $500. That is a lot for what you get (and that's with a 2 year contract!). Sure, its got internet and Google Maps and all that but that is also an extra fee every month. I'll stick with the video iPod with 26 more gigs for half the price (and that's not counting the price of the 2 year contract).

  3. Big deal...my Palm Treo can do most of that.
Apples stock jumped $7 today...you'd think they cured cancer or something.

  4. Do you think there's a possibility that they will release a wide-screen and touch-screen ipod as well (that will have more storage and cost less)?

But how easy is it to do it? That was the point of the keynote yes they can do all the stuff but it's overly complicated and a steep learning curve.

Will I get it... Probably not. I don't care for cell phones.
    Does my wife want it.....Yes
Will there be one in my family ... highly likely (what can I say she gets her way)

With the evolution speed of cell phones, shelling out $500 for one is nuts. You're likely to want a new model within 6 months, no matter how topoftheline your phone is when you buy it.
Sure, WiFi is something I'd like to have, but when I use GSM for data transfer, it's Euro 2/MB - One mp3 would cost me about $10 just for the data transfer! Plain silly.
But then again - iPhone is sooo cool. For now.

My thoughts exactly. A revolution? Not even close. Steve Jobs knows exactly that he has an army of devoted fans willing to follow him wherever he goes. They will be camping overnight to be the first to lay their hands on his newest gadget. It is a cult and it's highest priest Steve Jobs knows it full well.

Palm Treos run Windows CE; it's getting so that pretty much any phone nowadays has more computer power than your old computer.

Though along those lines, it's a funny world where your common phone -- once one of the most simple electronic devices in a person's household -- now requires the electronic overhead of the Apollo lunar mission program.

Personally, I just want a phone to be a phone - and work. I don't care if it can take pictures, play movies, plays games, play music, surf the net, baste a turkey or darn a pair of socks. I just want a phone that works when I need it to. I know I am in the minority here, where bells and whistles rule

I can't help but thinking that at some point in the future, we will look back and say that hooking everything to the Internet (phone, TV, banking, crictical infrastructure etc.) was a stupid thing to do...

yeah I knew certain smart phones can run Windows stuff but they are nowhere near as stylish and as feature rich with what looks like simple and cool navigation. If indeed this iPhone is priced in the region of just over £300 in the UK then it will be a serious contender

my only hope is someone hacks it so you can run Windows on it instead

I can agree with you Snakebyte as it's all down to personal uses but as I've said elsewhere, (slightly amended)

yeah people may just want the simple phone but obviously they are people who don't want the same features that I may want. I've got a Samsung E900 phone as I liked the fact it had an iPod type control system in a way for playing music. I've stuck a 1GB memory card in it and there's more than enough music on there to last me when I'm bored waiting somewhere or out riding my bicycle etc. I've also got the usual daft videos I can bluetooth and share along with some recorded stuff of my own (some that I'd prefer not share :P). As for it being a camera also then it comes in handy for those 'take a photo quick' moments

personally I'd rather have an all in one than having to carry around a separate camera, mp3 player, mobile phone, handheld game, filofax, laptop (for web), portable digital video recorder/player 'just in case' I need them . Even having the phone and a great mp3 player would do me as it's so handy to kill time or listen to while you are out somewhere. That's why the E900 is pretty good for me at the moment 8) (apart from the annoying touch sensitive buttons!)

at the end of the day I need a phone as it's so handy. I've always wished they would bring an all in one so you don't have to have so many gadgets on you or jump through hoops to do certain things. Why it's taken so long is beyond me but I guess it's down to battery capabilities. If it was size factor then I wouldn't have cared if it was slightly larger as long as it fit in my pocket . Heck maybe this will get Sony should stick phone capabilities into the PSP like I said ages ag. Although I'm not a PSP user nor will I probably ever be, it's still something that would be nearer the all in one portable device

What I find irritating is that manufacturers spend a great deal of effort "improving" devices by adding "features", but seem to neglect the basic requirements of the device. I just recently had to replace my older cell phone, which basically was just a phone. This new one has camera, nice colour display, bluetooth enabled etc. etc. BUT the battery lasts about 1/2 to 3/4 as long as the old phone and I can't get any connectivity in out-of-city locations where my old phone did (so I can take a picture of the trees and listen to a tune but can't call anyone!).

All-in-one devices are nice, but they are usually a "Jack-of-all-trades, Master-of-none" kinda thing.

@Snakbyte1, again you are right in a way but it depends on which phone you get as some have longer battery lives than others . Unless I'm using the phone 24/7 then mine lasts a few days so having to stick it in the charger every other day (car/house) isn't much hassle for me

Since when US has converted to mm's? iPhone dimensions are 3.5 inch screen but... 11.6 mm thick. Why not 29/64's of an inch (still not precise enough)? Doesn't it sound as cool? Jobs "revolution" may be in quietly switching US to metric rather then anything else...

We still use mm when cm is not enough for measurement.

One thought regarding iPhone's design, ...it strikingly resembles LG's Chocolate released in 2005, highly acclaimed and awarded for its unique design. I happen to own it (among others) and can't help the feeling that there are too many parallels between this phone and Apple's iPhone "revolutionary" design.

Here's what irks me:Steve Jobs infringes on trademark/copyrights and gets away with it while Bill Gates adds his free media player/browser with every OS and the EU cries monopoly.

    I fail to see why.

Windows CE has been running on handheld devices for *years* - and usually such that you'd never even know it.

There's a big difference: W CE has absolutely nothing in common with other Windows (like XP) versions more than the name and looks - but the iPhone OS really is a close relative to the OS10 used to run Macs.

If that thing will work for someone = good.
I honestly don't care is it OSX or Unix or Windows 3.1 inside, if it does its job = its good, if it doesnt = its crap.

I just don't like Apple's attitude with all their crap they make, and stupid people repeating after them all the commercial bullshit, all those fanboys chanting praises "oh, what a great phone it must be, because it was made by Apple" <barf goes here>
Face it: all Apple product are inferior to their competitor's products, all their products are overpriced and same crappy Made in China quality. Well, except for their propaganda machine and their advertisings - these are really top notch. Apple should be in advertising business (I said that years ago and I haven't change my mind yet).

As a company they try to keep that rebel, "smashing the Big Brother" look, but its not 1984 anymore, and Apple itself is more that Big Brother than IBM was back then. If they were to make their famous commercial nowadays, it would have to be Steve Jobs' face on the big screen that gets smashed... what an irony
