Hi. I have a Sony DVP-NS700P player, that, whenever I put a disc in to play I get a no disc error message instead of it playing. I worked fine up till 2 days ago. Does anybody know why this would happen?

    Thanks,
    Elllie

Clean it as suggested first .

Have you got it on a powerboard with spike protection ... if not , the problem is in the power unit ... there's a short in the supply .

Does the problem occur with original discs, burned discs, or both?

If the problem occurs with store bought/original discs, then it is a player/hardware issue.

If the problem only occurs with discs that you have burned, then you most likely have a media issue. The problem often occurs with using cheap/generic media, but can also occur with other media. You can check the DVD Players section for your player and see which media other users have had success using, otherwise it is a matter of trial and error. Try a name brand media such as Verbatim.

Check this site out regarding problems with SONY players- http://www.finkelsteinthompson.com/settlements/sony_dvd_settlement.php
It involves a lawsuit/settlement regarding a variety of SONY players and the dreaded "No Disc" error- mine just started doing it after 7 years of pretty good service (no repairs done). Guess I can't complain too much then, eh. Interesting to read the possible settlement options...one of them being a voucher or refurbed different model...Hmmm. Good luck to all those effected!
