I've captured 6 vhs tapes with my dazzle converter which captures them as MPEG2. All six of them have authored perfectly in TMPGENC DVD Author. No this one captured the same way, TDA gives an illegal file error, saying that it isn't MPEG1 or MPEG2. But, when i check it in Gspot it says that it is MPEG2.

I've even tried uninstalling and installing TDA again but still the error. what's up?

Get a more recent version of GSpot (2.52 Beta or later) - this version can't get any info from MPG at all (see all those n.a?).
No wonder all mpg info looks the same to you...

i've got gspot 2.6 also and it has them all listed the same - MPEG2. so i don't know what happened. i guess i'll try capturing it again and try, but the capturing process went fine and just like it always had so i don't think that would be the problem.

Here's the new version screenshot, just so you can see...

i just don't understand why TDA says that it is not an MPEG2 when it clearly is.

Looks like a good enough NTSC DVD source material to me...
TDA shouldn't have anything to complain about AFAICS.

I've had this problem beofre with TDA and it was because the resulting bitrate was too high! For some reason TDA doesn't like the combined bitrate for the audiio and video to exceed 8000. I noted that the Gspot screenshot says 10000. Try lowering it to 8000 or 7999 as the average (if you can do that in your capture). If you are capturing from tape or analog TV then going above 8000 won't be any different quality-wise anyway.

Why does it say 'DVD VOB Format'? Could this be the problem? That's what I get when I open VOBs in GSpot, I do not get this with any regular mpeg1 or 2s.
