Why do some people answer most of these sort of questions with a RTFM attitude?

The subject was actually fairly specific, in that Camz was asking for help in making VCDs specifically for playing in a VCD player.. a subject seldom covered by most of the forum posts. (KuskenLars - a VCD player is NOT a DVD player)

VCD players generally apply much stricter rules than a DVD player so it is unlikely any sort of XVCD will work reliably. Follow Trumans advice and read the convert page but initially stick to the VCD specification throughout.

  4. There are a lot of virtues in reading the manual (or the guides in this case). It contains more answers for the fundamental things than could be explained by a post.

Making a VCD for a VCD player is exactly the same as making a VCD for a DVD player. If you stray into XVCD-land, it is no longer a VCD and probably won't play on a stand-alone VCD player.

Sorry, was sitting in school and that affects you
    I didn't see that he wrote VCD-player, I assumed that it was a DVD-player...

  6. For the record coming from a standalone VCD player owner...
Nearly 100% of VCD players will support XVCD.
Encoding a VCD is exactly the same for DVD or VCD player.

  7. Well, I own a stand-alone VCD player too... It definitely does not support XVCDs of any kind. Even if the muxing is off (or if the stream doesn't have to 20 null bytes of audio padding per sector) it doesn't play properly.

I tried using TMPG Enc like it says if you click on convert but that makes mpeg files. The rest of my VCD's are dat files

  9. The "DAT" files are the representation of the MPEG files on the S/VCD.

Try read the "How To Author" guide on the left.
