  1. I was capturing some video with pinnacle studio 9 plus from my sony trv19 camcorder and the preview window froze and pinnacle studio stopped responding. The video was still playing back on the camcorder. I closed pinnacle and stopped the camera and tried again, but it didn't detect the camera like it wasn't even plugged in. I turned off my pc and back on and still nothing. I tried the usb 1 output on camcorder and that did work, however I can't really use it because it doesn't output full quality being usb 1. So then I tried the firewire input on the back of my pc, and still nothing.

So is the problem with the camcorder, the firewire card, the firewire cable or something else?

My system is a dell 3.2ghz dual core with windows xp pro with all updates.

Sure capture drive didn't fill? Or the tmp drive?
Was Pinnacle capping DV or encoding to MPeg?

Use WinDV to see if the problem is Pinnacle.

This can usually be determined by swapping each of those questionable components out with know-good components until the problem goes away. Starting with the cable since that is the simplest/cheapest to replace.

  4. I tried WinDV and it said, 'error can't find device'.

I bought a new firewire cable, and still nothing.

I tried a different camcorder and it still doesn't work.

My pc is still under warrenty so I guess I can have the firewire card replaced from Dell.

I would image your 'firewire card' is the entire motherboard. It's probably build-in instead of an addon card.

Have you checked in Network Connections to see if it's showing up and if so, if it has been disabled.

And in Device Manager. It will be labeled something like IEEE 1394 Bus Host Controllers.

    Good luck.

  6. I don't see it in Network Connections or the Device Manager. Will I have to get my entire motherboard replaced? My pc is only 5 months old.

    What PC Model?
Check the manufacturer's website for IEEE-1394 port problems or driver updates. Call support.

Did you build it yourself? If the IEEE-Port is on the motherboard, it needs to be internally connected and the proper drivers need to be installed. See the motherboard manual.

PS: I see it is a Dell. It should be working so call Dell support.

  8. I took the card out and put it back in and now it works.
