  1. I am having a couple of issues with DVDFab. Sometimes it runs flawlessly and the next it will start off at a reasonable speed, but after about 40% complete, the program gradually slows down to .03 MB/s from 2.5 MB/s and the task time left gets extreamely high.

I am unsure if this is a hardware problem on my part, as I seem to have problems with disk recognition as well, as it can take a few times of opening and closing my disk drive for the software to recognize that there is a disk in there.

I have been thinking about buying the professional version of Fab Decrypter, but I need to work out this problem first or it would be a waste of my money.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Edit: Just wanted to add that I updated decrypter to the beta 3.0.5.1

    Lots of potential problems.

    Could be reading bad disks.

    Could be DIRT

    Could be a failing drive.

Could be an overloaded system which can't hack the transfer rates from the outer tracks of the disk.

Could be failure to be in DMA mode.

    Could be hard disk fragmentation.

    Could be hard disk errors.

If you are reading rented or borrowed DVDs try cleaning them.
    Try cleaning your drive.
    Check your DMA settings.
    Defrag your disk.

Eliminte as many possibilities as possible.

  4. I have started going through the list.

    I am in DMA mode

I changed target drives to my newer hardrive, instead of using my older slave.

    I defraged my hardrive

    System is not overloaded

I got decrypter to read a movie all the way, but when i open the files with DVD Shrink I got a programming error and an unable to read internal memory error.

I am going to buy a cleaning disk for my drive today, but I was wondering how do I find out if it is my hardrive that is causing the problem?

Is there software that can do that?

Whenever you come across a disc that reads slow, just stop it, and then insert another known good disc. If it reads the good disc at normal speeds, then most likely you are just experiencing dirty/smudged/scratched discs.
