I have the the DVR-420-HS and love it, but I think it may be time for an upgrade. I would like to know if the DVR-640HS will play divx burned on DVDs. Or, does it only play on burned CDs? Is there any dvd recorders with a hard drive that will play divx on dvds? Thanks!

  2. I think all divx players play both cd,and DVD divx. one thing I don't like about the 640 it doesn't have a firewire .its not an issue if you don't have a camcorder with ilink(firewire)

Hello, I have the Pioneer dvr-440hx and I have just noticed that it will only play DivX files from a DVD disc if they are or stored on the disc as files and not within a folder on the DVD as files.

    Hope this is help

Hmm, okay so no folders. I use AVI.net to make my dvix and the program spits out a movie file and idx/sub files separately. So I usually create folders. Lets say I burn 4 movies ont the dvd and all the files and sub files are out on the open, I guess the dvd player will sort things out by itself? As long as the sub files are named the same as it's movie file... you should be okay assume?

I know what you mean, it is easier to set all the files into folders to keep it all nice and tidy. I will play with this idea of puting 4 movies onto a dvd with all the .srt files out in the open with no folders and see how it goes, will keep in touch.
