Ok here's the problem..
I downloaded a bunch of Simpsons episodes on TV.. want to make a VCD with them..
I get errors about the audio type is not supported It uses GSM, and the program uses PCM...so what I did was convert that into a wav with VirtualDub...and tried to encode the wav with it...
the funny thing is, none of the AVIS play in the preview screens of the programs (LSX Encoder, TMPG, VirtualDUB)
All I get is a black screen...but they run perfectly when I use them in Media Player?(!)
I have downloaded all the codecs on this site, made sure the DIVX Codec was correct, and I seem to have the correct codecs installed on my PC..
I have spent all day with this and I'm growing very frustrated..any help would be greatly appreciated.

Why do they have to run perfectly in the preview screen if they already run perfectly in Media Player? Is there something special you are trying to do? Maybe I misread your post.

It's kind of hard to tell what you're doing? So let me make sure I understand.
You have a wav file as your audio source but what's your video source? Avi, gsm, pcm??? What are you playing in media player, just the video, just the audio or both?
Are you frameserving from VDub to TMPGenc or did you just use VDub to generate the wav file? There are a lot of variables.
It sounds like you've got an avi with no audio as a video source and a wav file as the audio source. You load BOTH into TMPGenc but in preview the screen is blank. You aren't using 2pass VBR I take it (that would cause the screen to be blank until 50% is encoded).
I'm a newbie myself, but you might want to re-post with a little more info, sorry -
Ok, I got the solution.
I've had this frustrating problem before with Divx avis, and this is how I converted them to vcd compliant mpgs and burnt it successfully.
You see, the simpson episodes that you downloaded are divx avis, and the audio in the avi is compressed. However TMPG and other encoders cannot work with compressed audios in AVis.
So you have to download Avi2Vcd, from:
http://www.divx-digest.com/software/avi2vcd.html
Unzip and there are now files.
1 - run avi2vcd.exe to see if you can convert the avi to mpeg.
2 - if there is an error such as "error compressed audio"
then you have to run the decompress program
3 - run the decompress.exe and load the avi file. this should now convert your avi to non-compressed audio avi.
4 - now you can load your new avi into avi2vcd.exe or convert them using tmpgenc
cheers
