  1. I followed the guide for making a dvd to dvd-r copy using the newest nero and the Pioneer A03. I did everything correctly I used udf/iso, turned off jouliet, and added the empty audio_ts directory. The problem is the dvd will not work in my JVC XV-S65GD but it works on the computer. The JVC player is listed in the dvd compatibility list, and the user comments say that it plays dvd-r. The blank media I used was Pioneer DVS-R470SDF. Please if anyone has any suggestions let me know. Im gonna try the dvd-r on other players, maybe I was unfortunate to get one that does not work even though I researched it

  2. Well an update to my previous post. After I was about to give up I finnaly think I figured out what was wrong. I deceided to try to make a movie with Ulead DVD Movie studio and it actually worked, even on my 1st generation Panasonic A120 player. The only logical conclussion I have come up with as to why the ripped movie isn't recognized by my standalone but the Ulead created disk is, is the region code. When I ripped the dvd I removed the region code. Could it be that some standalone players reject disks with no region code? Anyone do any testing on this? Or could it be a software issue? I tried the same ripped movie on InstantCD and had the same results.

  3. Hey Thanks for the input. I have the same problem with my Pioneer A03 and Toshiba SD-3750. I'm going to try what you did and I will also try DVDit.

  4. Can anyone confirm my suspicions? I had to return the
dvd-r today so I can not do anymore testing.

Hey supernaut,I am very interested on this topic as I have been unable yet to back up a dvd using smartripper, nero and instantcd. You said that removing the "no region code" will do the trick. Yet, did you mean that the region code should be left when ripping ( ie: using smartripper), or done after with the dvd writing program suh as nero or instantcd?

  6. AnimeManic: I dont know when it should be done. I no longer have a dvd-r to test with. All I know is that when I created a dvd using Ulead it magically played on my 2 stand alone players. My hypothosis is that the only difference between the ripped movie and the one I created is the region code. It is highly feasible that certain manufacturers force you to use a certain region code. I assume that leaving the region code in while using smartripper would do the trick but I dont know.

  8. I think you are on the right track I had the same problem and made it go away by using Prassi PrimoDVD to burn with instead of Nero.

Prassi is supposed to check and correct IFO's and BUP's before burning but I have never seen a message saying it did so.

One other thing is that the DVD's that I burned with Nero wouldn't play in my DVD player but PowerDVD on my PC played them fine. Does the PC care about missing region codes?

P.S. If anybody has an electronic manual for PrimoDVD I shure would appreciate a copy.

  9. I had the same problems with burning DVD-r but with using Uead movie factory the disk just would not play on a stand alone player Sony dv3000 , I resloved the matter by using nero but only burning the video_ts floder and now all my DVD-r disks work

  10. it not region code related,

as most porn dvds are not region encoded and they play fine , and it prolly something you did in the process having created DVD-RWs in Nero and DVD-RWs under Ulead DVD Movie Factory they work fine, as for DVD-Rs I made one that playsback on the computer but not on home, a quick check here on VCDHELP shows my home unit does not play DVD-Rs but likes DVD-RW, so it's off to get he Apex 1500 for DVD-Rs.

  11. So the region code has nothing to do with it? So according to these responses I should try nero without an AUDIO_TS folder and try Prassi PrimoDVD.

i made several backups dvd-r with r0, r1 and all work fine in both my apex players but not in my friends newer sony using pioneer and princo blanks. The sony how ever plays anything made with spruceit & mydvdit and either blanks. We also discovered on an earlier sony player it would not play the spruce made dvd-r unless we removed a file with an extention xxx.lay.

  13. I tried using Nero without the Audio_TS and it didn't work either. I still think it has something to do with the IFO and BUP files not being right after a Rip.

I am going to try using IFOedit to correct them and then reburn to see if that makes any difference.

  14. Any luck with the ifoedit idea.

  15. I would be interested to know how you got on with infoedit too - i havent had much success with it.

It seems to do things and alters the ifo files but it enevr seems to make a ifo file my dvd player will read.

  16. does this method not only copy the movie, but also all the menus and chapters..etc...I'm just wondering if it copies everything, or just the movie (video and audio files) itself.

  17. Yes this method will copy everything including menu's and extras. The only thing is most DVD's are over 4.7 gigs so you need to downgrade the quality or remove extra stuff. There is a guide on this site in the how to section under DVD RIP.
