    Ok...That's a little better...But, I think you've been told a little mis-naming there.
The Original DVD that you will be copying IS your master, anything you make with it
will be a replicant. (thus copy)

First thing you'll have to do is rip the DVD to your HDD, there are some great apps to
do this over to the left in the "Tools" list.
(I recommend DVDFab Decrypter in "full disc" mode)

After that...it's a veritable DVD buffet, as to what you actually want to do, and what
apps will get you thru it.

I won't get into all that here, not knowing your actual needs...and as this is not a tutorial.
Browse thru the "Tools" section, look at the various apps pertaining to your needs.
(there are quite a few I'll bet)
Also browse the Video -> DVD to DVDR forums for some hints there.

The idea, is to gather all the info you can before you start...
Make a few notes...Copy some ideas you read on the forums in notepad and save them.
It's not brain sugery...but there is a learning curve.

Remember the old carpenters rule, "measure twice...cut once"
It will save you a bunch of coasters.

Maybe someone else will chime in here, and give a few more ideas.

  5. Well first off I hope you own the rights to the movie you plan to rip, that sounds a bit odd to me right there, but I'll figure you do?

How do you plan to have the master replicated? And why don't you have a master without ripping a DVD-9 to make one?

If your going to just burn a bunch of copies yourself nothing specail about it, just create a DVD on the hard drive and burn as may times as you want.

If your going to send it to a service to have comercail disks pressed then you should contact them and ask questions if they need anything any certain way from you or just a working DVD-R disk.
I think a DVD-R is all you need for a master for a single layer disk, but as I recall I think some places may preffer each layer on a seperate disk for a dual layer pressing.
It's been years, and a lot may have changed, and I could be wrong also. If your going to have a DVD-9 pressed and you don't have a master for it now, you may have problems after ripping if you need it on 2 disks!

And back then Daul Layer recordables were not very common, I don't think even out yet, so they may take those now or may not?

Make sure anything you send in is perfect! I remember being told by one place they basically do not look at anything. Slap your disk into a machine, make the master copy of the disk, slap it into the system and run your order. If you send a disk with errors you get pressed disks with errors, they don't check to see if your disk works! They just make what you send them! So you better make sure it's right or you may pay for a couple thousand coasters if your getting that many!
I think some place told me they would check the disk and files for an extra fee if I wanted to pay it, to make sure everything was correct.

It's been a year or two since I talked to any pressing companies about any of this myself, and I know several were a bit different on various things back then.

Also as I recall there are 2 masters involved. You send them the master you make on DVD-R and they use it to make the master for the machines.

Best to contact the company (or several) before you do much and make sure you know what your doing and what they want from you.

And like I say, if your just planning to make a few dozen copies yourself, just make the DVD on the hard drive and start burning them, make sure the first one works, and check the disks for errors as you go.

I think it used to be some replicator places where doing under around 500 or 999 as burned disks same as you can do and over that was pressed disks, unless you wanted to pay a small fortune for 500 pressed disks. But they may not be the most profesional ones either and things may have changed since then. So make sure you know what your buying from them. If it's a small order they will probably tell you it's better pricing for burned disks instead of pressed, if they do those, but ask anyway if they don't state it's pressed.
