Recently purchased an i/o magic gigabank 500 gig ext hd USB -- i did have an error come up saying unable to save info to drive:f due to slow data transfer somthing to that effect drive ...now i did change usb ports and error seems to have gone away so i suppose i may have a bad usb port.... 2 main reasons i picked up was to do a system back up of my 250 and 100 gig hds as im planning a major upgrade soon and have to go serial for my new hds when i change mb....second reason is i got a dvd5960 philips dvd player with usb port and later plan on using it for movies...

one thing i have noticed right off the outside casing is quite warm might even say hot not hurt your hand hot but pretty toasty none the less...ive never had a usb ext so is this normal for these drives or have i got a possible problem...anyone tried any of the i/o magic hds any comments for or against id like to hear your opinions...ive got the ext drive sitting well ventalated so there isnt anything near that would cause a heat problem and my comp it self has good fans and is cool to the touch...

in short have i got a lemon or just being paranoid any input is appreciated as all take it back for a replacment if it seems its just the one i got...or a smaller size or another brand.... im open to suggestions....

All of the external drives I have used get warm. If you open your pc case after it has been running for awhile and check your other two HD's, you will see that they are warm also.
