    Hello,
I wanted to know there is a good avi to wmv converter out there,

will the size of the avi when converted be larger or smaller? and will their be loss of quality or change in screen size ?

    Thanks for any help

What kind of AVI? AVI is just the container name, not what format the video is in. The name of the codec used defines the format. Probably Xvid or Divx?

What size and quality your WMV comes out depends on the settings you use for the WMV codec and the quality you started with. It won't improve, but you can minimize the loss in quality by using a high enough bitrate for the encode.

The framesize can also be set to the same as the original, as long as WMV doesn't have any framesize restrictions.

Windows Media Encoder would be my pick for WMV encoding. But it may not accept your present format. MS kind of has the market cornered for WMV conversions. Others are SUPER, which can handle a few more input formats, but it's not a very good WMV encoder. Or you could convert your file to DV format, then WME should be able to accept it. There are other programs, but most encoders are used to convert from WMV or RM or similar to the more common playback formats like Xvid, or Divx or MPEG.

Unless you have some major reason to convert the format, I would leave it as original and you won't have to worry about quality loss.

You might try installing the correct codec on their computer first, it would save you a lot of time and hassle.

    Otherwise try WMM or WME.
