  1. I have some videos that I'd like to put on YouTube. But when I view my first uploaded video, the sound gradually desyncs or desyncs, resyncs back up, and then desyncs again.

I know that when YouYube converts the uploaded videos to FLV, they also resize the videos to 320 x 240 and change the framerate to 30fps. There's also a 100MB limit that I gotta stay under. So when I convert my video to be uploaded, I change the size and framerate using Virtualdub to those values. The first time I tried to upload one of my videos, I put it in Divx with (LAME) MP3 audio. (Which is what Youtube recommends.) Nope, the audio slowly desyncs after it was posted on YouTube. (The output file was fine.)

The next thing I tried was to use the Windows Media Video 9 codec with the same MP3 audio. I wanted to try a different type of audio, but I'm only familiar with WAV and MP3 (WAV=BIG), so I stuck with MP3. The results improved. Instead of the audio skewing all the way, it skews for awhile, magically snaps back into place at one point, then starts skewing again until the end of the video. And of course the output file was fine.

So, am I missing something? Is there an ideal audio/video format to upload videos to YouTube in?

Any ideas or advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

  3. Before I convert it to 30fps with VirtualDub, it is 29.97fps.

Do the source videos use VBR-format MP3 audio?

I'd put on an avi as large as possible (100mb) and let them resize.

This is the reason I don't bother to post my vids on these places anymore...too much compression...totally destroys your presentation. I guess they just don't care as long as you're viewing the ads.

I've tried lots of sizes and types save the one I mentioned above and they all blew. It may be your last resort.

I just checked my collection and I have no y@utube videos GSpot reports as 30fps. They range from 14.?? and up. Are you sure they are converting your's to 30fps? Also, what method are you using when converting your 29.970 to 30.00fps?

    Good luck.

  7. Nope, the source videos don't have VBR MP3s, just a constant 192kbps. And I direct stream copy it when I create my "for-YouTube" output file it because to be frank, I'm not sure what else I should do with the audio. Compressing it at a lower bitrate would only worsen the audio since they recompress it at 56kbps.

And yeah, regardless of what codec I was trying, I always kept playing with the bitrate until I got something above 95MB but under 100MB. I also want it to be in the best quality possible before they compress it.

The reason I'm putting my videos on YouTube is because I've put a lot of time and effort into making them and I want as many people as possible to see them.... YouTube may be crappy because they want the attention but not the bandwidth load, but it's good enough for people to get the gist of my videos.

EDIT: Sorry, you replied when I was typing this post!

When I upload a video, it says something along the lines of "Use 30fps for best results..." near the field for browsing for your file. And I'm not sure of anything; I only assumed they convert their videos to 30fps based on what that said. The way I convert the framerate is using VirtualDub and then selecting the "Video" menu and selecting "Frame Rate." Then I choose "No Change (29.970)" under "Source Rate Adjustment" and "Convert To fps:_30.000_" under "Frame Rate Conversion."
