    Hi all.

Does any one know of any editing software which enables the effect you commonly see on TV where an area of the video is censored?

For example : A registration plate is blurred while the car is moving and the blur stays and moves thru ought the video or a person's face ect?

    Any help would be great!!

You can do that with VirtualDub or VD Mod, depending on your video format. VD will only output in AVI type formats, though. You could use the DeLogo filter. http://neuron2.net/delogo132/delogo.html I think there are other filters that may do the same thing using VD. But they are for static images.

These aren't much help on a moving image, as you would have to adjust the blur as the area moves. There are probably some very high end programs that will let you track a specific part of the scene, but they are not likely very cheap and may not run on the average PC.

But there may be some members that have a different method that would work better.

    And welcome to our forums.

Something like Vegas or Premiere can do it through manual motion tracking. Higher end effects packages such as After Effects/Combustion/Fusion etc have motion tracking modules that can automate creating the paths. After that it is a simple matter of dropping a masked effect onto the path.

  6. I haven't done the effect myself in Avid, but I've seen people do it.

The only way I could tell you to do it with certainy is with either Premiere or After Effects. I know how to do it in those programs.

EditStudio does it very easily. They even have two tutorials about it in their forum.

The more complete one on how to hide using a black box is here.

And the additional info on how to do it with a "blur" is here

The EditStudio forum is one of the big reasons I've been using that program for years; I can post questions on how to do "odd" stuff and I get fast responses from the developers or very knowledgeable people. I've even seen new enhancements to plug-ins less than 24 hours after I posted "gee, this is nice, but I wish it could do..."
