They are probably in an MPEG-4 format such as DivX or XviD and most home DVD players will not play those files without first converting them to standard MPEG-2 DVD format video and audio.

The Philips DVP-5140 is a DVD player that can play DivX and XviD MPEG-4 files. You can pick one of these up at a WALMART for about $49 and change.

Just noticed you are in Canada so I don't know where you can buy one but the Philips DVP-5140 is sold in Canada.

Using torrentspy / bitcomet can result in any format , so the simplest method of conversion would be to use a program called super to convert them to mpeg2 ... the vob idea dosent work yet ... well not properly .

A couple of tool's that will get you started :

Super - appear's to do frame rate conversion better ... converts many formats to other formats .
Batchdemux form the dvdauthorgui site - demux mpeg .
Dvdauthorgui - for creating dvd , with or without menu's .
Imgburn - burn the output project from dvdauthorgui .

    Other utilities :

The gimp - backgrounds for menu's ... create's png's with alpha (avisynth motion menu's and stuff)
    Avisynth + dll's
    Besweet - audio conversion
Pgcedit - quickly fix nav commands if it dosent play correctly on pc prior to burning to media

Pretty well the basic package , and it hasnt cost a cent to get started ...

I meant to mention this earlier ... don't know why I didn't ... but there is a program called GSpot that you can load your video file into and it will tell you properties about the video and audio of the file.

So GSpot helps you to identify what it is that you have so that you can then decide the best way to proceed.

My suggestion would be to download GSpot and open the video files into it and then make a screenshot of it and post it here.

That way we can see what it is you have and advise further.

Here is a guide on how to TAKE and then UPLOAD a screenshot: CLICK HERE

Here is the website for GSpot: CLICK HERE
