Hi guys, I'm new here although I; now and again browse the forum - this is a really cool forum, busy and helpful so now I'm joining.
Ok so recently, my friend sent me an MP3 - It was like for The Friends episode season finale or something and whoever made it, had a certain song playing in the background - and throughout it, say every 20 seconds - he got certain lines or phrases from the episodes and nicely blended them in to a real good effect and make it into an MP3
I'm an OC fan and want to do something similar.
I have chosen an MP3 to use as a background -
Now I have a few .avi files of different OC episodes I want to use and take out maybe certain lines.
My questions to you is, how can I do this -
What tools do I need to extract this small "lines" from the .AVI -
Then also lastly what tool do I need to try and embed it into an .mp3?
--
I would really appreciate this help. It's also for a college project - and I have a real good idea for something. 'Just for extra information, even though you guys probably don't care - it's for a Art show I'm planning on being in and I want it to have a sad tone to it so I'm taking some so called "touching" lines with a sad song in the background.
Would love some good help on this people - would mean alot to me and if I can help anyone back in anways, as I do pretty good web designing, I would be glad to.
Thank you

Like do I need to first convert the whole .AVI episode into audio or something?
Like I don't know where to start -
Thnx -
A lot of ways. For freeware, maybe VirtualDub Mod for the video part. For the audio, you could use Audacity. It's a good freeware audio editor. You can add, blend and filter the audio with Audacity, then add it back in with VDM.
VDM can save out the audio as a WAV file using full processing, or if it's already MP3, Audacity can accept it directly by demuxing it with VDM to a separate MP3 file.
You will need to do a little reading and studying for all this. -
Yea freeware! hehe
Ok so with VirtualDub it goes - .AVI > ? Mp3?
Then I use Audacity to mix the audio I get from the .AVI to mix with the chosen MP3?
I didn't catch the VDM part though -
Basically I want to extract a certain area of audio from an .AVI movie file -
Then with that audio - blend it with an already made MP3 file -
I'm new as well. But I think this is the way to go:
*Download VirtualDubMod & Install
*Open VDM (virtualdubmod), open your AVI from the filemenu.
*Goto: Streams/Streamlist from the menu.
In the streamlist you will see (usually 1) stream wich is prob the MP3.
Select and hit "Demux" save it with extension ".mp3"
You now have the complete audio from your AVI.
Next:
*Open up adobe audition or any other wave-editing program with multitrack capability.
*Load the MP3, select/cut all the parts you want and throw them into Multitrack-mode (this is how Adobe Audition works)
*Load your favorite song. and drag the little snippets to where you want them to be.
*In Adobe Audition, save the result with "Rightclick/mixdown, stereo, entire song."
recompress to MP3 -
Between 20/20's post and mine, you should be able to put it together. After you separate the audio from the video, you can do what you want with it. Just make sure you don't change the length of the audio or it won't sync.
There's guides for VirtualDub Mod (VDM) and Audacity, you just have to look. -
there's no need for the TS to worry about the length of the
demuxed audio.
He just wants some phrases/sentences from this OC. series.
and mix with his favorite song -
Yea' you got what I want 20/20!
I'm going to try it out - Adobe Audition is good? Easy to use? -

Does it do what you want to do? yes
You use the multitrack editor for what you want to do. I have done something similar to what you want to do. But the important thing is to cut out the clips(audio) of the voices, that you want. If you can get that you can shift them on the multitrack editor on where you want them on the mp3(uncompressed .wav file). Also learn to use the envelopes, cuz it will make the transition from the song to the voices smoother. I mean if you keep them at the same amplitude you risk getting distortion/clipping.
adobe audition is capable of loading the whole .avi file(video/audio) IF you have the codecs installed. So you can see which parts of the audio you want to keep. As an added note - it is also capable of loading .avs files so IMO it is the best app in order to fix even the most difficult to-sync files. -
Nice one - just downloaded Adobe Pro.
HAvn't tested it out as I am at work - however I don't think it should be too hard for me to figure out coz I'm a Adobe loverI do web designing etc so always use Illustrator and PS - Granted they are design programmes but hopefully some things are similar as in layout etc.
Ok you say the important thing is to cut the audio -
Yea' obviously because I just want practically 10 seconds from a 50 minute movie file and its right at the end.
How do I get that 10 seconds I want? Using VDM or Adobe Productions?
Also with this can I like - when I want to put the audio from the movie in - I can lower the volume of the music so that the voice is heard more? I can do that right
I will definetely post here my final peice - I think I'll be good at this lol -

It came out perfect.
Now to get the specific audio part from the MP3 - Cut it
I'm doing this step by step and posting it on here for my reference and also anyone in the future = for help! - Hope you guys don't mind -
Ok I used AAudition to TRY and cut it - to no avail
Confusing!
I got the MP3 - loaded it into AA - all fine
Changed it to EDIT mode in AA -
Now there are some tools on the top like Select Timeline mode and Scrub mode etc - however I can't figure out exactly how to cut
A little step by step on what to click on - in AA plz? -
Ok so far -
Don't worry for my question on how to split good -
I just found a tool called MEGA MP3 SPLITTER
It is amazing easy and very fast and only 360kb! - Very nice tool
Ok so now my question is -
When you go to MULTITRACK
First I take the small MP3 snippets and load them all into different "BARS" - you know like the different bars on view in Multitrack view?
Then when I have them all loaded - then load the MP3?
Can someone give me a brief breakdown on some of the main functions for that Multitrack part - it is really confusing
Pan sound - etc etc how are you supposed to time it etc? -
You can load all the snippets onto one track(#1). The yellow line indicator will just let you know where you are loading each snippet. Then load your song mp3 onto another track(#2). You load all of these by right clicking and click on insert into multitrack.
Maybe I'll post some pics to give you a better idea. -
Here is what I'm talking about from above:
You can see you put the snippets (voice-overs) on one track. Then the mp3 song on another one. You can preview by clicking the play button at the bottom left.
What specific questions do you have about the multitrack part? Since you already did the cutting by another program, all you have to do is place them on the tracks now. You can adjust volume for each part by adjusting the envelopes.
you access the volume envelopes by clicking towards the top part of the audio within the multitrack editor. And then play around with them and see which is best. -
Yes Pinstriped - you taught me how to use it!
Got up early to play with it before work today and thanks to your screenshots - figured it out!
You rule!
Ok last question - any good tips you can recommend to make things even smoother or cooler? Like in general with AA? Or some cool effects I can implement and how to? -
