"Taking the lyrics off a song"

When I play my iPod and take the headphones out halfway, the music still plays but the vocals are somewhat gone. I want to know how to do this using WavePad and save the song as an mp3 without the vocals.

I'm also fully aware that the vocals don't disappear entirely and I might lose some of the instrumentals. I just think it's a cool effect.

This is the same effect that Karaoke uses.

Basically, you need to invert one channel. That's it.

The way it works is that the lead vocal is nearly always recorded dead center of the stereo mix. That means each channel has the same amount of the vocal signal. Inverting one means the center (i.e., vocal) gets cancelled out.

Some of the instrumentation will be affected but not too much. A solo may disappear if it is dead center. And any chorus effects on the vocal will remain.

Never mind, I downloaded the Winamp version, used it in Winamp, and I'm recording the output sound with Wavepad.
