  1. Hello, I'm trying to make a music video using clips that are in Divx6 format.
I have tried several editors and when I put the video on the timeline and play the overall project the video lags a LOT. The video plays fine when I'm only playing the video and not the full project. I dont have this problem with uncomressed videos. My computer is 3.2Ghz dual core, I have 512mb graphic cards and 2gig of ram so it cant be my computer thats lagging. I was wonderring if there is an option to make the preview of the full project play smoothly. Because this is a music video I NEED to see every single frame of the video in the preview.

I've also had problems with matching the sound with the video. when I actually publish the movie, the sound/video are a little off then what it was in the preview. I was also wonderring if anyone knows a good software I could buy that has high quality preview playback.

In Ulead VideoStudio I've tried the "High Quality Playback" but with Divx6 files as the source it take a VERY long time to play back...

Another solution that I can think of is uncompressing all the divx6 video clips. However that is not an option for me because there is over 200 clips and it would take a LOT of space to uncompress them all.

    Thank you!

What audio format are the clips? I'm wondering if it might be MP3 VBR. That might explain the sync problems. You can check with Gspot 2.60.

Editors aren't very good for playback, though that doesn't sound like your problem. I haven't seen any problems editing Divx 6, though any highly compressed format is a poor choice for extensive editing, Divx included. I use VirtualDub Mod most of the time.

I use the freeware VLC media player for most playback. I'm not aware of any payware Divx players that would be much different in quality, just features. But I haven't tried them all.

Your problem is simple to solve, but you don't like the answer. Some codecs are designed for editing, others for storage and playback. Generally, those designed for storage and playback are difficult to edit because of the way they compress data. Divx is one of these formats.

If you really want to edit, convert them to an edit friendly format. DV, lagarith etc. Otherwise you will be in for a tough time.
