  1. OK I have some movies with ac3 audio. alas my Creation Zen Vision VGA can not read AC3 audio Grrr

So I finally found out how to fix this EASILY I open virtual dub set video for direct stream copy set audio for full processing set compression to say 112kb stereo and Save AVI

Works like a dream new file in 3-6 minutes. Problem is well over 70% of the time this in fact does NOT WORK. when it is Almost done 90 some odd percent (right at the end) it will FAIL and the program will crash.

Now I have heard of some "processes" not working on newer version of vdub so I started downloading older versions. I got to 1.5 something and HEY it works but now the audio is insanely out of sync with the video :-( useless.

    Suggestions ?

What format are you converting the audio to? I assume MP3.

I use VD Mod most of the time, as I like how it handles audio better. You may have the same problem, though, if you do a direct audio conversion. You could save it out as a WAV with full processing, then convert that by adding the WAV back in and using your new format (MP3?) and saving the the file with Full processing audio/Direct stream copy video.

A little convoluted, but that's what works with MP3 VBR audio when you need to convert it to MP3 CBR audio. This should eliminate sync problems. Try it with one of your problematic videos. If it doesn't work, then post back and someone may have a better method.

  3. ITs not a VBR problem its a not working at all problem hehe

all the files are AC3 audio encoded. some work many don't I do not convert to VBR I only use CBR (its easier and less troublesome) or do you mean maybe my SOURCE audio is vbr ?? (how do I check?) anyway to figure out why vdub crashes ? when it works it works flawlessly. If its going to be involved or take a long time I would rather just not do it. (My dvd player and computers handle the files just fine only the Vision has trouble since it does not support ac3) If its involved I will just not play those files on the Vision.

I assume you have the AC3 ACM Decompressor and maybe Lame MP3 installed? My comment about VBR was that AC3 can be treated the same way. You may have a different version of the format in some of your videos and that's causing the problem with VD. VirtualDub Mod seems to have less problems with odd audio formats. You could try one of your videos and see if that method cures it. If not, it's a different problem.

  5. Ahh did not realize VD Mod meant Virtual Dub Mod. Downloaded. Just got home from work (7am here) so I am going to bed will try it when I wake up !! Thanks !! Fingers crossed it will work.

the vsub method is so fast and easy that its "worth" converting them all (since the dvd player will play either) but this way I can toss it on the vision if I want.

Will give it a go and see what happens

  6. ahhhhh ok I got Vdub mod going but there is no audio menu ? how do I set change or alter audio ? I found an option to save wave but with no audio section how would I remux it once I did that (and I really do not want to go that route anyway) ???

  7. Audio is on the Streams menu. Streams -> Stream List. Right click on any of the streams (probably only one) and select the options you want -- Full Processing Mode, Compression codec, etc.

  8. Huh it wont let me convert it to any other format except other ac3 formats. Thats odd. (its only these 3 films that do this too) I extracted to wav but nothing will touch it - EZCDDA Extractor seems to be handling it so I am writing a normal 192kbit mp3 - will then try to PUT this into vdubmod - I assume I can just click that add button to add a new audio track and it will make it the new audio for the movie ??

  9. If you didn't enable Full Processing Mode your WAV file contains AC3 audio, not uncompressed PCM.

Note that WAV is a container just like AVI. It can contain uncompressed audio or audio compressed with any codec.

  10. Huh new problem. I am trying to see if virtual dub mod will fix my problems but a new problem is preventing me from even testing it. I thought this was limited to the specific movie I was working on but now its doing it with all of them.

I set video to direct stream set audio to full processing then I goto Compression and under mpeg audio layer 2 I have NO OPTIONS in fact under EVERY ONE of the audio options in there I have NO OPTIONS except for AC3 (source is AC3 I am trying to make it non ac3) If I pick SHOW ALL it lets me pick it but always immediately fails saying compression not possible.

What changed ? what did I goof up ? This is happening in Vdub and Vdub mod ???

I suspect your AC3 decoder is set to output something other than 16 bit PCM.

  12. And how do I change this ? I found an AC3 Filter Control Panel entry and under Sample format it says PCM 16bit
