    Hi there,

This has probably been asked many times before but i'm too much of a novice to decipher whether or not a topic heading relates to my quiery - yep, a genuine dummy!

So, I am editing a piece on Premier 6 and have some footage I'd like to use from a VOB file i have. I changed the file extension to avi, but when i try to import, nothing happens other than the regular error window. With one of the files, when I changed it to mpg, only the audio would import. I have a sneaky suspision that it is due to the file size - could this be the case? The file is 353MB. If this is the case, how do I cut the size down? Is there a way I can just cut out the piece I need - i'd like to avoid decreasing the quality as much as possible.

    Please help me!

    Thanks you

353MB is a small file by video standards. It's more likely that Premiere simply doesn't like VOBs. A VOB file is an MPEG2 file anyway but has extra information in it. Changing the file extension from VOB to MPG works with some software but not with others. Use VOB2MPG first to remove the extra stuff and then import that.

Hi there Richard G. Thank you very much for your advice. I downloaded VOB2MPG and it converted my VOBS into MPG - only problem is that when I import into Premiere. it will only show me the audio file - I am still missing the visuals. Am I doing something wrong?

    Warmest regards

I'm afraid I don't know. I normally only work with DV .avi and MPEG2 files. I did have a need to edit a couple of VOB files a while ago and found that if I simply changed the file extension to .mpg, I was getting strange things happening (using Ulead Mediastudio Pro). I used VOB2MPG and it worked fine for me.

I notice that a few people have had problems with there only being audio (looking at the comments against it in the Tools section) so you aren't alone. Perhaps it depends on the source of the VOB files, maybe? I can't be much more help I'm afraid, sorry.
