hello,
I recently made a dvd (pal, and so compatible with ps2) but it wouldn't play on my ps2. Is there a program i can use that will convert the files to mpeg and that will play on my psz. At the moment I am using DIKO for conversion.

First - if it is a DVD created with DIKO, it will be mpeg-2. While mpeg1 is permissible in certain circumstances, mpeg-2 is the basic currency.
Second - the PS2 is a very poor quality DVD player at the best fo times. It is picky about the quality of the disc used, and can even be picky about format.
You could try other software - ConvertXtoDVD is a pretty solid player for a one-click-wonder - but I would first start with good media (see www.nomorecoasters.com for a starting read) and use imgburn2 to burn, and nothing else.Read my blog here.

I've used TDK -R's, Sony and Memorex +R's w/ mine the Sony's are my choice media though. Dunno why really just a habit I guess. I know they work and don't produce coasters. I also burn w/ either ImgBurn or ImgTool depending. If i'm working w/ raw vob's then it's ImgTool if it's a straight DVD Image then it's ImgBurn.

Is it an old PS2 or a new slim PS2? The old versions are much more limited with respect to what they play and not. Get a mod chip, use SMS and play the AVI instead.

They do if you live in the United Kingdom ....(As you will see the original poster does) ... there wouldn't be much point having dvd playability on a UK ps2 if they didn't play pal as all UK dvd's are palOriginally Posted by handyguy

NTSC/PAL and Region coding are 2 entirely different things. So, if your have a NTSC PS2 and make it region free, that wont make it play PAL DVDs (any better than before). Since all (with rare exceptions) home made and ripped DVDs are region free, the TV system issue is what remains.Originally Posted by handyguy

what i use to have to use w/ some is the good ol AVI2DVD kit i would occassionally get errors w/ region so i'd take the vobs process them w/ imgtools and create an iso then mount that on a virtual drive rip them w/ dvd decrypter or dvd shrink and set it to region free mode then reburn the vobs w/ imgtools.. a lot of foot work but some called for it. dunno why. it would only happen ever so often w/ avi2dvd but it has happened so maybe this is the case.

I don't think it's a TV system problem as i have nother dvd player which plays the dvd. I thik it must be a region problem. Is there anyway to solve this using the program?Originally Posted by mats.hogberg

I think it's PS2 problem. As DVD players, they are extremely picky.
