I have an image and what im tryign to do is use the picture as more of a frame and have the video play from outside the boat. I thought i would blue screen everything outside the boat, add the blue screen effect , add the video and put it into premier. but the video plays all over the screen interrupting the visual of the boat. yeah i know im missing something vital here, it was just a thought of how i shoudl go about this. so anyideas on how i could obtain this effect?

I am no expert and you may have already done this but have you changed the order of your video tracks?

I recall in premiere one track will overlay on top of the other depending on which track is on top so either try the still in video one and the movie in video 2 or vice versa.

Hope it is as simple as that!

    Hi SirScrub124,

    Here's how I'd do it:

    1) Using something like Photoshop, create a new image that has a transparent background and that is the same size as your frame image.

    2) Paste your frame image into the new one with the transparent background.

    3) Remove the unwanted parts from the frame image (now a layer), leaving the transparent background showing. Save this as a PNG file.

    4) Import the PNG file into Premiere and put it into a video track - say track number 2.

    5) On a lower numbered video track (track 1), put the video you want to play through the transparent part.

In Premiere, higher numbered video tracks play over lower numbered video tracks - so the transparent part of the image, being in a higher video track, will allow the lower video track to show through.

I was just thinking the same thing, right down to using a png file instead of a tga with alpha.

What version of premiere are you using ? I just tried it with premiere pro 1.5 and it seems to work alright.

I put the video on track 1, the still image on 2, stretched it to fit the length of the video, but I did it green rather than blue (not sure if it makes much difference).

Once I'd put the green screen key on the still image, I used the effect controls and adjusted Cutoff to about 47%. This stopped the moving image showing on the still picture.

Great minds think alike... Or maybe I'm starting to think like an Aussie!

@ 12Quidkidinnit: Out of curiousity, what did you use to remove the unwanted parts of the image? It looks like you've done a precise job, especially around the smaller items like the cables holding the ramp up.

An old version of CorelDraw (8 I think).

The OP had PM'd me this problem earlier today, and sent me his version, which is blued out in much the same manner. I used that to test the png trick in Vegas. It also avoided the issue of additive blending
