Hi there, I'm usin ffmpegx and i am trying to convert a divx avi to a DVD, but it only converts it to m2v. Am i missing a step? The tutorial at http://ffmpegx.com/dvd_sub.html says I should just run the conversion and then look for a VIDEO_TS folder... but it only creates a m2v file. I need the dvd for subtitles... as my dvd player can't read subs on a divx file (i think)

    please help!!!!

A M2V is just the video component of a MPEG-2 file. You will need the audio also. Since you are running OSX, you would get more answers in our Mac Forum. Moving you.

You might want to take a look to the upper left, for 'WHAT IS' DVD to see the DVD format and specifications, especially the components of the VIDEO_TS folder.

okay, so I finished the converstion and I ended up with a m2v file, an mpeg file an s.mpg file an xml file, and an ac3 file.

How do i translate these into DVD?

Do you have Toast 6 or 7? If so, just drag the .m2v to the Toast Video window, it will ask you to locate the audio file. Set up the menu and burn your DVD. With Toast 7 you could have skipped using ffmpeg.

I'M going to look into getting toast for sure. The audio file I can handle... however, I'm still not sure how to get subtitles to work properly.

Question is... if I buy Toast... Can I easily put subtitles on the file?

That's strange as ffmpegX should give you a VIDEO_TS folder automagically.

Failing that, under the Tools section of ffmpegX, there is an option (somewhere - sorry not in front of my Mac right now) to author a DVD from an mpg file. Give that a go. Failing that, post your question in the ffmpegX forum here on Videohelp (or search for anyone having the same problem):

i did it again with ffmpegx and played with the subtitle settings... I think it was because I was using the idx file? I'm not sure.... and with my computer it took all night... but this time it actually authored the VIDEO_TS file and 'lo and behol.d.. it worked (well now to test the burned DVD in my DVD player... cross my fingers)
