I was reading a review about a DVD/VCR recorder and just can't figure out what they are saying. This is a part of the review:

"I got this about 2 weeks ago after reading the reviews on this site and It works great. I'm using Memorex 1-2 x DVD-RW media. I have had no problems copying from tv, with timer and dubbing from VCR......Just read the manual and follow directions. Unfortunately (and probably on all DVD recorders) you cannot copy protected VCR tapes. Also, you cannot burn a copy of the DVD you made on this. I wanted to burn on DVD-RW and then transfer items I wanted to keep onto cheap DVD-R's, but it's not possible."

    I don't understand this part:

"Also, you cannot burn a copy of the DVD you made on this. I wanted to burn on DVD-RW and then transfer items I wanted to keep onto cheap DVD-R's, but it's not possible."

If I were to make a copy of something on a DVD,you mean I can't take that DVD and make more copies? I just don't understand what they are trying to say,can anyone simplify this for me? Thank you.

  2. I assume you figured out not able to copy VHS is a macrovision issue.

The reviewer did not figured out the burn DVD has a different setup vs store bought DVD, and some programs deal with only store bought DVD. Application like DVDdecrypter can copy it with iso read, then iso write. Nero can copy it with "Copy entire disc" option....

So it's basically a misunderstanding of the reviewer.Using a DVD made from a standalone DVDR can be treeted as any DVD would using something like Decrypter.

Yeah, the original reviewer probably also didn't know the difference between DVD-Video mode and DVD-VR mode, and so was stumped when (just a hunch) given .VRO file structure. We here know better. 8)

Not saying you are wrong, but I read this differently on the first pass. I took his meaning to be that he could not use the recorder to dub homemade DVDs on DVD-R, which would not be surprising if the recorder doesn't have a hard drive.

    Yeah, that's a possibility too.
