I think my computer is fine
I have pioneer 110D running on this computer too !!
it can burn the same disc at 16x w/o any problem
    DMA is all enabled.

    I bought this drive yesterday.
It cannot burn Verbatim +R 16x (CMC) faster than 4x
so i got a new one today.

I just wonder is it alright for this ?

SolidBurn is Disabled for supported disc
but MCC004 is shown as learned disc

    This is what it did
    when i got it (wopc=no)

this is with the BCHC fw

    but when WOPC is enabled
    it resulted like this

So I updated fw to the lastest official one , BCIC
and it stil cannot burn at 16x

    I have tried with Mitsubish DNS-AZO +R 16x MCC004
    it got the same result.

I dont have any other 16x media, in Thailand, MCC004 Verbatim is the best media that available here.

    Thanks.

Are you sure your BENQ 1650 drive is in DMA mode? Because it sounds like your drive is in PIO mode. You can try changing the ide cable if the drive is indeed in DMA mode. Also try using another brand of dvd media.

  3. That drive isn't in an external enclosure is it? If not, I agree with budz that it could be in pio mode.

As I suggested try using a new 80 wire ide cable. When you flashed the drive did you have a disc in it? Did you flash it in windows or safemode? I flash all my dvd burners in safe mode.
