    Hello,
I saved a wmv video from www.rajshri.com using the Flip4Mac Quicktime plugin for Mac OS X as .mov file on my iBook. I would like to convert it into a format to play on Windows XP and Zune. Media analysis information is given below. This file plays fine with the Quicktime on my iBook but doesn't play on Windows PC.

The way I understand the contents of this mile is that it has a .mov container but the actual video and audio is in WMV and WMA format. I am hoping that there is a way to remove the .mov container to save this file as wmv file.

I have already tried ffmpeg command like tool and Super software but none of them work, and complain about the file format.

Flip4Mac does sell a software that will do this conversion on my mac but it is kinda expensive.

The file can be downloaded from here: http://samples.mplayerhq.hu/mov/wmv3_wma2_in_mov.mov

Maybe Quicktime Alternative will work, along with GraphEdit. The QTAlternative hooks the QT container and codec formats into the Directshow infrastructure, and use of Graphedit to build a process of parsing--demuxing--remuxing--filedump to WMV should be doable (though I haven't tried it yet).

Graphedit gave me an error that it couldn't construct a graph from this file.

QTAlternative also couldn't render video and audio.

    Any more suggestions??

After posting, it came to me that the WMV-for-quicktime codecs were only made for Macs. You might still be able to successfully construct a Graph in Graphedit, but you'd have to do it all manually--adding each component along the way. This isn't easy, even for those who have used Graphedit before (not for newbies). And NO, I haven't seen any good thorough guides for Graphedit, just a few step-by-steps for particular problems.

Your choices as I see it:

    1. Try Graphedit again (in conjuction with having already installed QT ALternative)--manually.
    2. Back up and re-encode your source to something that IS understandable on a PC. Like DV-AVI. Then continue with the encoding to WMV on an actual PC.
    3. Fork over the $$ and get the Flip4Mac encoder.

Thanks Cornucopia for the suggested options.
