What are Brother-in-Laws for?

My BIL (brother in law) just stumbled in bragging about some serious money he just put down on a digital SLR look-alike at Walmart. The first thing I'm thinking is that Walmart just announced they were doing away with lay-away so this is probably BS. Ha ha! Anyway, this serious money turns out to be $150 on some new camera they're now carrying. I just thought to myself, "Dood, I've been shooting since I was 7 years old. Why didn't you at least ask me first or research digital cameras on your computer (which I set up for him)?" It then dawned on me that this was Walmarts typical customer...no research, going by looks, have no idea what they're buying, etc. I think Walmart has done a mighty fine job in this department. They're able to present a product, sell it at low cost to the consumer, and also (this is probably the most important part) fill the customer with confidence as he or she leaves the store. Actually, they do have a killer return policy which others have copied. Funny thing is, I'm sitting here with this killer 35mm SLR with 4 lenses for sale that would have, could have blown his 5mp camera outta the water. But I guess I'm mixing apples with oranges at this stage of discussion.

Don't worry too much about what he spends his money on, it is when he starts getting into your money that it hurts!

The layaway will be a thing of the past after this month. Wal-mart was quoted as saying it stops in January.
