I have a MyHD 130 capture card which generates HDTV transport stream (.tp) files. I've been working with Project X (0.90.4.00 2006-03-30) to demux the stream for editing. Mpeg2Schnitt and Project X both seem to be working perfectly. Everything is in sync and quality is fantastic.

The problem comes on the Muxer. I've been trying to use ImagoMpeg. It accepts the files from Project X and performs the conversion with no errors.

The problem is that it muxes the first five seconds or so and then terminates without any kind of error or warning. The mpg file that is created is 6274 kb which seems about right for the playback duration. The 5 second file plays fine, just where is the rest of the video? I've tried making every change I can in Project X, but the results are always the same.

Is there a setting I'm missing or has someone got a muxer recommendation that works with Project X?

Have you tried another encoder? I have done downconversions with tmpgenc just fine using the split files out of projectx. Just put in the m2v and downconvert - then use mpeg tools inside tmpgenc to mux the ac3 and video file together. Works great.

It isn't that. The problem is most "regular" muxers can't handle HD resolution media.

This one can, but you'll have to manually enter the name of the AC3 file you wish to mux (a bug in the software)

What are you trying to do? Fix the .tp file but keep it as HD? Down convert to NTSC mpeg2?

For fixing the tp file and leaving as HD I use VideoReDo but I have heard that mpeg2repair (freeware) works very nicely. No de-muxing required by either

For down converting HDTV2DVD (freeware) works very well, great PQ, fast but has very few selectable options. HDTVtoMPEG2 (freeware) is also quote good and it has commercial detection.

I regularly record OTA .tp files and for selecting the correct stream, cleaning it up, commercial detection VideoReDo does it all and does it very well. I pretty much do a QSF (Quick Stream Fix) on all .tp files then if I need to down convert I use HDTV2DVD. My networked media player has a little trouble with 1080i at the really high bitrates > 18Mb so I downconvert them before viewing them.

Thanks for all the Tips guys.

The goal (in the short term, anyway) is to make DVDs from captured material.

After some tinkering with the Mux rate (Forced mux rate of 250000.) I've got Mplex.exe working quite well. I'm interested in exploring your tips and I'll comment further when I've got a chance to try some of them out.

It will be real interesting if mpeg2repair addresses the early termination issue.

Project X for demux, Mpeg2Schnitt to edit the M2V and AC3 files, and Mplex to put it back together.

    So far so good.

First thanks to Soopafresh. Mplex works great. The audio file will not display for selection as he indicated. Simply copy & paste the file path & name into the audio selection box. Copy and Change the demuxed audio file out of Project X (m2v to ac3)

Imago MPEG muxer will not work with HDTV M2V files. Nice muxer just can't handle the files.

1.) Capture the HDTV stream (.tp).
2.) Use mpeg2repair to check for and correct any stream errors. (Thanks to bits on that one.)
3.) Demux with Projrct X 09.04. (Project X has some error correction features as well.)
4.) Edit with the M2V file and the AC3 file as required using Mpeg2Schnitt.
5.) Use Mplex.exe to mux the files into a MPG file.
6.) Use Nero or Roxio (Or your favorite program) to Author and Burn your DVD.

(I tried to use Nero 7 as the muxer. I couldn't get it to work due to periodic audio breaks. (The frame rate for the HDTV stream was 59.97. DVD Frame rate is 29.97. This might have been the issue.)

You can edit the muxed MPG file with VirtualDubMod. Just reduce the frame rate to 29.97 and instal the AC3ACM AC3 codec or you won't have any sound.

HDTV2DVD works great. Just what you recorded is what you get for your DVD files. (Very Plain Jane conversion.) You could take the edited files from MpegSchnitt and mux back to a .tp stream for use with HDTV2DVD I guess........

I haven't tried HDTVtoMPEG2 yet. Obviously if you don't want to edit the audio as a seperate issue, this application and VirtualDubMod will work quite well.

    Thanks again gents!
