Can someone tell me what the *quickest* way to rip a DVD is?

The quickest way I can think of is:

    1. DVD Shrink.
    2. VirtualDubMod.
(Assuming all needed filters and other bits and bobs are installed.)

Is the above a good/bad idea?
Is there a more optimal and faster solution?

Quality is really important - so I don't want to spare on that part.

    Thanks.

sorry... I should have said: yes.

also... not sure how possible this is... but i would really really like an automated solution as possible!
i.e.: just stick the dvd in and press one button say.
    is this possible?

Try FairUse Wizard. It should do most of that fairly much one touch. You may need a program like DVD43 or AnyDVD for a front end to decrypt some of the newer DVDs.

The ripping usually takes 25-40 minutes. That's just copying the DVD data to the harddrive while removing the copy protection.

However, depending on your CPU, the encoding to shrink the from a 7+ GB disk to a 4.3 GB disk can take an hour or more. And then the burning is another 8 min. or so depending on write speed.
Some days it seems as if all I'm doing is rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic
