    the software that came with the card is kind of slow and i don't like it that much. another problem is that when i turn down the volume it will turn down the entire "waves" playing. so if i want to mute the TV when there is an incoming call on skype i'll have to close the program and later re-open it. so i am looking for something that will solve this issue as well. thanks.

    I have a PVR-250 and WinTV2000's audio and mute controls are independent of other programs or the system audio volume.

    You can try Sage TV or Beyond TV. I don't know if they are any faster.
