i tried converting a .mkv video with variable framerate to .avi using one of the guides here but the audio wont sync, is there a proper way to deal with this problem?

Is the audio VBR also? That could explain the sync problem. If so, save it out as a WAV and convert it to CBR audio.

the extracted audio is also vbr, how do i convert the audio to cbr?
