  1. I have a JVC XV-M567 (the gold triple-tray one). It works with CD/RW's (so far I've tried Memorex ones only). However, I'm also having problems. When I finally did get them to run it randomly hangs for a short period of time and then starts playing again. It's like the audio & video lock up. It's similar to when you're looking at a real-video clip over a 56k line and it runs out of its buffer and has to stop & download some more. It hangs for up to 30 seconds sometimes, plays for anywhere from 1-5 minutes, then hangs again. Therefore, I don't have this figured out yet either, but it definitely will at least read the CD/RW

  2. I have a JVC XV-555BK and it also plays CD-RWs (generics). Unfortunately, it also hangs periodically for no apparent reason. The only thing I have noticed is that Nero created VCDs work better (fewer lock-ups but still bad) then EZ-CD Creator.

I was wondering if anyone tried a regular store bought VCD in this player? If so, does it work well?

  3. Unfortunately, The JVC's built in the past year all have the hanging problem. Doesn't matter what model. Doesn't matter if store bought or burned. They even stumble on some DVD's.

I think it's the buffer cache they are using.

  4. I am using the JVC XV-523 single tray. It plays both CDRs and CDRWs without a problem. The format it will recognize are VCD, XVCD and XSVCD, but not SVCD. XSVCD is by far the best quality, but I had to lower the bit rate to 2000kbps.
Memorex and Digital Media CDs seem to work fine.

Try Mr. Write CD-RW. It is more reflective than Memorex.

  7. Maverick,
I am using ULEAD to edit the video, with a custom set of parameters for XSVCD. These are the same as you will find on the VCDHELP site for this format. Just set up an XSVCD template with the same configuration as is recommended on the website. The only difference is that the bit rate is set at 2000kbps, instead of 2500. Using Nero Burning Room, burn the CDs. Otherwise, there is no magic to it. What kind of problems are you having?

  8. I don't have problems with my JVC 523 with cd-r/rw media but I do have the problem with XSVCD not playing. The player will read the disc and then allow me to play and the timer starts but it will never show video or sound. I'll have to try the 2000/bit rate.
