It plays some wmv but it doesn't on one certain file i downloaded..

i had the same problem. Im using WMP9 and it play wmv6 ,7 ,8 just fine but not wmv 3
go to microsofts site and download codecs for WMP7 (you must have at least WMP9 installed)
download and install, and unless your wmv is corrupt ..... it should play fine now.
