  1. Hi all,

I've managed to capture video from a VCR directly to the computer via composite cables (I have an HP Media Center with composite inputs). I am capturing with Windows Movie Maker (because Sony Vegas refuses to acknowledge the Hauppauge video device) and the video comes in fine, but no matter what options I select, it will not recognize the audio. I've tested the audio coming from the VCR on a regular TV, and it's there, working fine.

These are the options in Movie Maker for Audio:

Device: RealTek AC97 Audio (this is the only choice, and as I understand it, is the audio driver for the Hauppauge device...so fine...)

Audio input source: Mono Mix; Stereo Mix; Aux/Line in 2; CD/Video in; Line in; Microphone, Phone line.

None of these options get any audio, even increasing the input volume level on each, etc. Why no option for 'Composite' which is where the video is coming from?

I have captured video using FireWire from MiniDV cams (using the Hauppauge device, I assume) and the audio came through fine w/ the video.

Any ideas? And better yet, any thoughts on how to get Vegas to even recognize the device? (When I hook it up for capture, I get: "The device 'Hauppauge WinTV PVR PCI II Capture' could not be opened. Please make sure that it is turned on and not being used by another application or user.")

    Thanks!

Capture with WinTV. Then load it into WMV. What Hauppage card do you have?
The RealTek AC97 Audio device is propbably you on board audio, not the Hauppage card.

  4. Not sure how to use WinTV or if I have it on my computer. Would you mind explaining how that works?

I'm really puzzled - I have composite inputs BUILT IN to my computer, and yet I can't seem to capture audio from those inputs! Am I missing something???

    Thanks for your help guys.
