I think the tool dvd to vcd converted the vob files to mpeg-1 since that is what vcd uses. Anyhow the files are still way too large, 1GB each. What I want is a tool that will convert the dvd files (4.7 GB VOB files) into 1400MB of mpeg-1 so I can burn them to 2 CDs. I havent had any luck with the tools stated here, and things dont seem to work the way the tutorials say they should. Im willing to keep trying, so if anyone can give me step by step instructions, what tool to use, etc, Id sure appreciate it.
Also, if I use AutoGK to convert the VOB files into avi files, how large or small should I make the output avi so that when these avi files are converted to mpeg-1 (for VCD), they will take up 1400MB or less?

Don't convert to AVI then MPEG, it's pointless. What is the running time of your original DVD?
He's a liar and a murderer, and I say that with all due respect. -
Have a look at https://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=84759
Standard VCD is a constant 1150kbps. This guide tells you how to use a lower rate; which may not work on all players though. -
steveryan,
the run time of the film is 2 hours 50 minutes.
I tried following the tutorial that was given, and I got all the way through to where I need to use tmpgenc to multiplex the d2v file and the audio file. But for some reason, tmpgenc does not load the d2v
file, even after I installed the DVD2AVI VFAPI version 1.774
Whats going on? -

But I cannot get tmpgenc to load the d2v file and I dont know what plugin I need for the vfapi. I have downloaded and installed the dvd2avi vfapi plugin, which I got from a search on google, and I did change its priority under options in tmpgenc, so that it is now at the top of the list, and is checked. But I still get the same error, d2v file not supported, when I try to load it. Whats going wrong?
I uninstalled dvdtoavi, uninstalled tmpgenc, uninstalled the vfapi filters, then reinstalled everything, ran the movie file through dvd2avi, got the d2v file and the audio file, and again tried to load it into tmpgenc. Same error.

What should I do? -
Hey guys,
New question. I was able to load the d2v and the audio file and get mpeg-1 output. The output files do have an audio/video sync problem though, the audio comes early. I know that we can use virtualdub to fix the audio/video sync issue, but the output file is saved as an avi. If I load an mpeg file, can I also store the output as mpeg after doing the audio/video fix?
There isnt an option to save as anything other than an avi, at least I dont see one. Can someone help? To summarize, I want to save the output as an mpeg-1 just like the format of the input file, how do I do this in virtualdub or anything else that lets me fix audio/video sync
