Only if your standalone dvd player is able to playback divx files.

If you're going to use a CD disc then burn it using CD-ROM (ISO) or DVD disc use DVD-ROM (ISO).

Some DVD players are able to play DivX and XviD AVI files if you burn them to a CD/DVD recordable.

However very few DVD players have this capability.

I don't know what options you have living in India but here in the USA one of the most popular choices due to the low price and the fact that it works fairly well is the Philips DVP-5140

Here is a link to the Philips website: http://www.india.philips.com/index.html

That link will take you to the India/English Philips website. Apparently the version sold for your market is called the DVP5150/94 and this appears to be the same model as the one sold in the USA as the Philips DVP-5140

So most likely that will be your cheapest yet well working solution.

Please note though that this DVD player does not support DTS audio but it does support Dolby Digital audio and features analog audio outputs as well as a coaxial digital audio output. Also unlike most DVD players this model does not have S-Video out although it does have composite video and component video outputs.

So I would search for that model (DVP5150/94) and chances are you will probably find it simply listed as DVP5150 or DVP-5150

As previously stated, success depends on if your friends DVd player plays DivX AVI or not.

Take a look under CONVERT left, see "AVI to DVD".
If you just want it done, I suggest convertx2dvd, or its freeware predecessor divx2dvd

wow thanks a lot mats.hogberg.. wats gona happen to the size and quality after i convert this divx to dvd?

  14. File size will go up and quality will of course go down as you will be re-encoding. Each Re-Encode introduces a loss of quality. A 700Mb movie for example has already been reduced in quality. Plus the time to re-encode depends on how fast is your computer. The faster the computer the less time required.

I think you'll find that most oneclick apps (like convertx2dvd) will try to fill the DVD as much as possible, at least if your source is somewhere around 1.5 hours or more.
Basically, when going from AVI (DivX/XviD) to DVD, 3-4 times the size of the source file should be expected. Lower than that, and the conversion will visibly degrade quality.
