I am going to be using the Dazzle Hollywood DV Capture device to capture video from VHS to my PC, edit using Ulead VideoStudio, and then export back to VHS. What should my resolution settings be coming in and going back out to the VHS? The video is of a beauty pageant and will be given to individual contestants with just their portion of the pageant (with titles, transitions, etc.).

If anyone has used this before and has any suggestions, I am all ears!!!!

    Thanks....

  2. Hi,

NTSC DV is a standard with resolution and bitrate. For NTSC, the single resolution is 720x480 and 3.5MB/s. The audio has two settings: 32khz or 48khz.

The DV Bridge plays DV files well with its hardware codec. I'd avoid converting it to a non-DV form. Otherwise, you can not use the DV Bridge for playback.

VideoStudio5 is a good editing package. Editing has a learning curve, so experiment for awhile. In general:

    -Keep transitions consistent and simple.

-The length of clips depends on the mood and music you use. If it is upbeat, keep clips to around 5 secs each. Other than that, try to keep clips to 8-9 secs max.

-Titles should be designed to be readable. Using a package like Ulead's Cool3D does help make professional titles.

-Put about 5 secs of blank video in the start and the end of the video. This is a good buffer for allowing tape startup.

  3. The Hollywood DV Bridge has a fixed capture resolution.

You should capture with the software that came with the bridge ie Mainactor.

In pal(UK) the resolution is 720x576.

You can edit in mainactor and then you can output this back to tape without any loss or encode to VCD,SVCD etc.

A great product that works with the bridge is Scanalizer, see the links. This this program gets around my 4gb problem with Windows 98se and cuts up the clips automatically.
