  1. I installed ac3 filter and still have the problem
    They work right with VLC media player.

    Give us as many specifics as possible. Ie., what did you use to encode, author, etc.

  3. I am just trying to play my avi files
    can't give specifics as I didn't encode them they are ac3 audio play fine on my standalone dvd player and work fine in vlc player but no sound in media player and a rattling sound in divx player
    No ac3 audio works in media player

    I hope someone else answers your question, 'cause I would've recommended installing ac3filter, but you did already *shrug*

    I too had the same problem, 'BirdDaddie'.

    For me, it was solved by opening the AC3 settings dialog, and playing around with the 2 dropdown lists in the 'Output' section of the 'Main' tab.

    I found that simply checking 'Use SPDIF' made all of my woes go away.

    All files play fine (AC3/non-AC3), and I've made NO adjustments to the gain settings whatsoever.

    As always, play around with the settings, and keep loading WMP each time to check on the changes (if you don't actually reload the whole program, it won't use your new decoder profile)
