I have a matroska file with h264 encoded video and 6ch he-AAC audio.

I have media player classic 6.4.9.0....with core avc loaded
and ac3 filter 1.11 also loaded.

I have a HTPC with SPDIF connection to a DD/DTS 5.1 surround amp.

    The picture is superb!!....but!

How do I get it to play the 6ch ie...5.1 sound... out via my surround amp
    to the speakers???

I have played DVDs and Avis with DD5.1 no problems!

I have been fiddling ...for half a day...with the settings in AC3 filter to try
    and get output ...
    but no luck!
Am I trying to do the impossible?? ie decode 6ch AAC to feed through
    to my surround amp??

    This problem is so frustrating

The only way you can do what you are trying to do is to direct the output via separate analogue outputs for each channel, connect these into the multi-channel analogue inputs on your amp, and from there to your speakers.

The spdif won't work because it only sends digital audio data, and your amp cannot decode AAC.

Your only other choice is to convert the AAC to 5.1 AC3, then play it back through your existing kit.

    Thanks ..gunslinger

I assume most people playing these types of matroska files(with 6ch aac)
must have games(ie xboxs) setups with analogue 5 speaker setup connected.

I also assume converting this 6ch aac audio to DD 6ch is complicated??

Several ways to do it actually.
    1) Dolby live sound card hardware encodes to AC3.
    2) DTS connect sound card hardware encodes to DTS.
    3) ffdshow software encodes to AC3 and uses SPDIF.
    4) I think AC3Filter can also do realtime software transcoding.

A Dolby live/DTS connect sound card is obviously the easiest.

So there maybe software solutions to getting the

    ....6channel AAC audio...

to be converted for output to an 5.1 surround sound receiver
and on to associated speakers?? (ie FFDshow or possibly AC3 filter)

Or if you get an Auzentech Digital X-Plosion 7.1
DTS Connect Sound Card...then no matter what the source
you can output DD5.1 or DTS5.1?

I have been playing with AC3 filter ...to try and get this but without
much success.....mind you ...its really been without much understanding
of how to change the ac3 filter settings....just turn this off or try this on!

It would be nice if someone could do a basic guide of the AC3 filter...
someone who understands how this filter works.

looks like I may have to look at one of these Auzentech cards...
