    hi all,

came across my first .rmvb file and wanted to convert it with ffmpegX.
however, dragging & dropping the file onto the source area just yielded
in a "no video" and "no audio" message.

after checking the ffmpegX website I learned that I need this helix dna
client. however, there's no such "macos-gcc3-pb" entry in the table.
    or am I blind?

so, I guess I have to download the source package and build a binary
myself to make ffmpegX work with .rmvb files?

    thx & greetings,
    Stefan.

"If you have problems in getting [the Helix binary], [...] you may download instead a stable build of reallib from this link."

    wow, Case, this was fast!

    now we're getting closer!

okay, downloaded this zip file, uncompressed it, moved it into the right location and, yes, now ffmpegX detects the format correctly and gives me a video & audio information.

however, when converting it into an MPEG4 [.AVI] (mencoder), ffmpegX Progress finishes in no time but produces no output at all (and obviously didn't convert anything in one second).

Here's the output of ffmpegX Progress's Process Information:
    ---
Encoding started on Fri Nov 3 18:47:31 CET 2006
    MEncoder dev-CVS-051126-18:35-3.3 (C) 2000-2005 MPlayer Team
Mac OSX static build for ffmpegX
    AltiVec found
    CPU: PowerPC
    success: format: 0 data: 0x0 - 0xadfed66
    REAL file format detected.
    ---

I, too, noticed that when I press ffmpegX's Play button mplayer starts but crashes immediately after that.
    Here's the crash log (excerpt):

Are you on Intel or PPC, also if you click PLAY does it play the RealVideo movie?

    Hi major,

I'm mainly on my PowerMac (Dual G5 PPC 2.7 GHz) but I do have a MacBook Pro and an Intel MacMini, too. As I neither have a copy of Windows nor Parallels nor VirtualPC I'd *really* like to see things work under OS X... *sigh*

As I wrote above, when I press the Play button in ffmpegX mplayer launches but crashes immediately. Crash log is above (but I guess it doesn't really help, does it?)
So I can't actually see the .rmvb movie.

    Is there any advise?

    thanks so much!
    Stefan.

  8. Maybe send me a link to download the RM file? I could make a test with it.

You can host the file on YouSendIt.com or SendSpace.com, then send a pm (personal message on this board) or e-mail to major with the download URL. That way, you can work around the (size) limitations of many mail systems.
