Hope I have come to the right place to find a solution to my problem.

I have been sent a CD containing video from a friends wedding but am having great difficulty with it. Having searched around I believe it is supposed to be a VCD. However it does not play on DVD players which I have previously used for other VCDs and will not autoplay on several PCs which I have tried. I can get the video to play using Windows Media Player and AceDivX but only by navigating to the MPEGAV folder and with view set to "Any file type" selecting AVSEQ01.DAT. With "Media file type" no files are shown.

I have tried a method in user guide posted by Baldrick using Isobuster to extract an mpg file but when doing as suggested do not get an option to save as *.mpg file, the only type available for save is *.dat.

The CD contains 4 folders, EXT, MPEGAV, SEGMENT and VCD with no files in the root. MPEGAV contains one file AVSEQ01.DAT and VCD folder has 4 files, ENTRIES.VCD, INFO.VCD, LOT.VCD and PSD.VCD.

I believe that the CD was created simply by copying files not using any VCD or DVD authoring utilities but want to be able to make a VCD from these files.

I know nothing (or almost nothing) about video file formats and how they are created so would appreciate it if somebody could advise me of how I can make a VCD to play on DVD player.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

    Chris

I would remake the VCD with VCDEasy, just add the .dat in VCDEasy and make a new VCD. You might have to convert the .dat to .mpg with vcdgear (it wont reencode the video) and then add the .mpg in VCDEasy.

You could also make a DVD from it, use vcdgear to convert to .mpg and then add it in tmpgenc dvd author and it will make a working dvd without any video conversion.
