  2. First of all, how are you sending the output from your DVD player to your television?

I had a problem using S-Video from the DVD to the television (VERY gray output). If you can, try the component output (yellow RCA video cable) to connect the two. Although I would think S-Video would be optimal, there may be some issues there.

If the video skips like crazy, the quality of the VCD may be TOO much for your player to handle. Try dumbing down the bitrate of the video/audio.

  3. Actually it sounds like you're trying to play a PAL resolution VCD on a NTSC or vice versa.

Check your DVD player and see if you can switch from NTSC to PAL or vice versa depending on where you live. If you're in the States and Japan probably NTSC, everywhere else is PAL.

  4. Yep, It certainly sounds like NTSC on PAL or PAL on NTSC. Some players support a feature called pseudo PAL, which is NTSC colour converted to PAL @ 60Hz. Mine has a switch on the back. I have never heard of a player going the other way.

If you have a european player then you will probably be OK. US player then you are probably stuffed.
