    hi,

i need some advice on dvd-9 to dvd-5 conversion... i understand that some quality loss will be there, but what's the best way of doing it while not losing too much quality??...

can i still retain the menu and episodes selection while not losing too much quality?.. i would like the dvd-5 to be region free also...

i understand that DVD Rebuild is the best tool for the job but how should I do it??... i am not able to find a "dvd-9 to dvd-5" conversion in the options, unlike DVDShrink where i can select dvd-5...

should i be doing it this way :

    1) DVDShrink - rip to HD from dvd-9 to dvd-5, making it region free (wouldn't quality be lost due to the conversion?)

    2) DVD Rebuilder - encode (would this improve the quality by encoding?)

    3) ImgBurn - copy

any advice would be much appreciated...

    thanks !!

Your method is OK. You are 'ripping'. This does not change the quality, it just removes the copy protection. Just about any video ripping or recoding program will make the disc 'region free'.

Shrink will give you better quality if you eliminate the extras and video and subtitle tracks you don't need or use. This will keep the transcoding 'percentage' higher.

If you have a very long movie or you want all the extras, then using a program like DVD Rebuilder will likely give you better results. If Shrink is showing numbers below about 80% for your transcodes, then other methods may help. If it shows 100% with just the main movie, then that's about as good as it gets. This is all subjective, though. It depends how much time you want to spend and how much quality you want.

Other options are to split the extras off to a second DVD or use a dual layer DVD.

So you don't want to remove any of the episodes but you want to split to two disks? Just click on the DVD Shrink link and read the guides.
