I grew up in Vancouver but believe it or not I prefer the Calgary winters - so much more sun. Cold snaps here don't last as long as the rest of the praries...

As for Vancouver weather - they've just got over a couple of weeks of having to boil their water (due to flooding) and about a foot of snow...

Still... A few more days till we see the plus side of 0C - and a few more days of running to the back door shouting "Cat! Get the Cat!" to trick the dogs into going outside.

15 degrees here. Not too bad, but I'm not looking foward to the cold weather coming. I really need to move some place hot. Well I dream of living in a warmer place. I heard North Carolina is nice. I dunno yet.

As far as I know Chicago has fairly similar weather as Toronto - I lived in Toronto for 7 years...

    I don't miss their winters...

This is a shot from the same time last year. I miss it. Especially watching the game last night and seeing it snowing in Seattle while its near 70 degrees here.

The best is waking up Christmas morning and looking outside to find fresh new snow.

I just got back from Detroit last night and it was strange having nearly the same temp in Dallas as it was up there.

I actually like the bitter cold days we had in Minnesota. There were usually stretches of a week or more where it would stay down around -30°C. Worst I've ever encountered was while going to school in Grand Forks, ND. With wind chill it was said to be about -70°F (-57°C) but that wasn't assuming the gusts that are typical of that area. That was interesting to behold.

Apparently Dallas has some ice storms coming overnight tonight. This is my first winter down here so I'm interested to see just how bad it is. I know I'm OK with driving on ice but with how much the locals bemoan this weather I don't think it's quite safe to be out with them.

I agree with the bitter cold - as long as the wind is calm and the sun is shining. There's something refreshing when you inhale through your nose and you can feel the little hairs freezing...

Yeah if its CLEAR AND COLD it's fine. It's when its dark and depressing and too many storm fronts moving through that it drives you a little nutty.......

Yup, and it sucked. I was brushing my teeth with bottled water for a week. then it started snowing....a lot. were under about a foot and a half of snow right now, and it's been cold. Nowhere near as cold as Calgary mind you, but cold for Vancouver. It's big news here, because it's not that often that we get temperatures below zero or snow, and we've gotten a lot of both in the past week.

It's 11 degrees here in the north Wasatch valley of Utah .. with the wind it feels like -5 (that's degrees Fahrenheit, not that silly Metric system stuff).

Being from the Great Lakes myself, I look at the sidewalk and remember how much money I used to make shoveling snow when I was a kid.

Of course now I would have to stop and smoke a cigarette every five minutes, maybe throw my back out, have a heart attack and fall in front of a snow plow. All for a measly $10.

72F here in Atlanta at 6:30 or so tonite, but I will be home for Christmas and hope to get some snow play in!

I noticed its FINALLY gotten colder around where i am. Its about damn time too!

Tired of the constant heat. Plus its a hell of a lot more satisfying after a weightlifting session, to walk back to my dorm in windy, cold air.

    Ahhhhhhhhhhh...... :P

I lived about an hour north of the equator (Malaysia) a few years back and I thought I was going to love the constant heat but after a year or so I found I really missed the seasons. It's not so much that I love the Canadian winters it's that you miss the changing of the seasons - especially spring and fall.

I guess winter is like beating yourself with a hammer - it feels so good when you stop...

This showed up in my inbox... but should have been for Grimey:

    Vancouver Blizzard 2006 Vancouver (Reuters)
Day 2 - Vancouver Blizzard 2006 - Revenge of the Commuters

Chilled Vancouver commuters faced their second day of winter hell today, as an additional few centimetres of the peculiar white stuff fell, bringing the lower mainland to its knees and causing millions of dollars worth of damage to the marijuana crops.

Scientists suspect that the substance is some form of frozen water particles and experts from Saskatchewan are being flown in.

With temperatures dipping to the almost but not quite near zero mark, Vancouverites were warned to double insulate their lattes before venturing out.

Vancouver police recommended that people stay inside except for emergencies, such as running out of espresso or biscotti to see them through Vancouver's most terrible storm to date. The local Canadian Tire reported that they had completely sold out of fur-lined sandals.

Drivers were cautioned to put their convertible tops up, and several have been shocked to learn that their SUV's actually have four wheel drive, although most have no idea how to use it.

Weary commuters faced soggy sushi, and the threat of frozen breast implants. Although Dr. John Blatherwick, of the Coastal Health Authority reassured everyone that most breast implants were perfectly safe to 25 below, down-filled bras are flying off the shelves at Mountain Equipment Co-op.

"The government has to do something," snarled an angry Trevor Warburton. "I didn't pay $540,000 for my one bedroom condo so I could sit around and be treated like someone from Toronto."

thats hilarious! I think whoever wrote this was just jealous that we have the best winter weather in Canada, none! Granted when it does come were caught with our pants down, and the whole city shuts down, but that happens once every few years :P
