  1. How to shoot yourself in the foot! What an annoying piece of crap their opening page is with this damned thing popping up all the time.

    Not impressed!

not nearly as annoying as the color scheme of their home page... it is so distracting with all of the bright colors I find it hard to keep my eyes focused in one area. Since the redesign I have pretty much avoided the main site, which is a shame, because they have so much to offer.
Some people say dog is mans best friend. I say that man is dog's best slave... At least that is what my dogs think.

  5. I agree, it's a good site, but whoever sold them on that stupid survey overlay should sell swampland in Florida! It's amateurish and not at all in keeping with the nature of their site.

Firefox blocks more than half of the site for me, because it's full of so much crap.

It reminds me of those magazines that I have to shake and rip out all the perfume cards before I can actually sit and enjoy the magazine. Of course, 50-60% of the pages are ads. I've dumped most of my magazines for this reason.

Technically it's not a pop-up. That's in a <div> within the main code of the page and uses no javascript to display it. However it does use javascript to hide the div so if you have javascript disabled you can't hide it... My guess is you will start to see lots of pop-ups like this because the pop-up blockers have no reference to block them, it will be impossible to distinguish regular content from pop-up content.

Just poor implementation on being able to close it.... Rule #1 when using JS is that it isn't required to use the site.

Another thing to note is if you have cookies disabled it will show up every page load whether you selecet never anyway.

Dude this must be something really new
I was trying several tricks to try disable it and nothing worked except for blocking entire page
So the question is who is going to crack this first and comes up with a new blocking software

The most irritating site popups I've seen are those that scroll with the page, always staying in the center, like a mosquito continually buzzing in front of your face.

There's nothing to crack, it's not new nor is it anything special which is one of the reasons it will be hard if not impossible to block. If you're using FF go to view>no style to remove the CSS styling. The ad will now magically appear at the top of the page. Look at it this way, that is just content that could appear anywhere on the page but they moved it to the center of the page. At best they can try and block any div's that fall within a certain criteria such as if it's positioned over other divs like that one is. However positioning Div's outside of where they would normally fall is a pretty common practice. You're going to get a huge amount of false positives on lot of sites.

Along the same lines a lot of ad blocking software that block images use certain creiteria such as the image dimensions, filename, folder name etc. There's no magic about it, the trouble is if legitimate images fall within this criteria they get blocked too.

This is like the war between virus makers and anti virus companies

Cologne, perfume, whatever. Smelly-good pages. Some of the colognes are too fruity for me, they may as well be perfumes.
