Video plays fine in WMP. I try to use TmpGEnc to convert to MPEG (so that I can use them in DVD-LAB). When I try to play converted file, the very first frame blinks and then black screen (with audio). I have extracted audio with goldwave and used AVI as video source and wav as the audio source. I am lost. Thanks in advance for any replies. Cheers!

If you could drop it into Gspot 2.60 and post a screen shot of the original video, that might help us. https://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=271697
And this for commom TMPGEnc problems: https://www.videohelp.com/tmpgenc.htm#problems -
Have you tried increase the directshow reader in tmpgenc? www.videohelp.com/tmpgenc#problems
Do you see the video in tmpgenc under file->preview?
Or try reinstall the divx codec.
Or try another mpeg encoder.

Its strange. I convert alot of videos, but only this one and one other are giving me headache. What happens is, during the recode process, with preview enabled, I can see the first 20-30 seconds of video, and then the video (preview) freezes, but recoding continues. I see the first 2 "warning" screens that are part of the video, and thats it...sticks there. The acutally fade in and out like the video does, but then it "stops". I tried to cut a portion of the video from the middle using virtual dub, and converting that to mpeg, but same thing. I see first frame of the file, then black screen and the sound is OK.

Sounds like a bad AVI to me...
Try loading it in VirtualDub, and frameserve to TMPGEnc.

PS: Hey mats, I think your signature should say:

Teach a man to fish, and you will have created a liar for life!" hah hah
