Avi is 640 x 320 82kb/sec, 23.981 fps.
Having already encoded a similar clip with TMPGenc's standard VCD PAL template I got a very subtle skipping which must have been the framerate conversion. it's imperceptible except for when a large object is scrolling slowly past. So I'm going to try NTSC film. I don't mind any flavour of VCD as my Pioneer plays most, I'm trying to make the best use of CD's by filling them right up. My first question.. can you make your "resolution" (ie 640 x 320) pretty much anything you want, and how does this effect file size and quality ? I would imagine that 480 x 576 takes up approx 2.7 times more space than 352 x 288 ? Is the improvement in quality the less visible lines ? (Imperceptible on a monitor, obvious close up on a 28" TV)
About the file size, I've tried various bitrate calculators but constantly get the size badly wrong, so I need extra CD's or my CD's aren't full. I know it sounds obvious, but is the best method to cut a one minute clip of varied action and try all the different encoding methods on it, then multiply its byte size by the number of minutes of the entire clip ? Obviously VBR will give varying results but are there other things to watch out for ?

TIA
