  1. Hello

Can anyone help please. I have been downloading avi's for quite a while now and everything has been fine. I think I downloaded a programme which has changed the look of the file from being able to click on it and windows media player coming up, to being asked what I want to open it with. This also means that if I want to watch the file on my standalone dvd player, it says the disc is empty after I have burnt it.

So basically, when I look at the downloaded file, instead of it showing windows media player it shows a tile.

Thanks if you can understand what I am getting at

Sounds like your file associations might be up the creek - either that or windows media player has been corrupted somehow.

You should be able to fix it by right-clicking on an AVI and going to Open With, then Choose Program, then choosing Windows Media Player and ticking the "Always use this program to open the selected file type" box.

It shouldn't affect the burning of the files though
    If in doubt, Google it.

  3. Yes I can open it that way, but normally it just says "play" and not "open with". I think this has happened since without knowing it I downloaded Mozilla Firefox. Before then everything was ok. Its not the playing on the pc that's a problem, its using it on my dvd player.

  6. Check in the options of WMP if avi file is checked (the checkbox bacground must be white and not grey).

If it's grey, check the box until it gets white background. Exit WMP. Avi association should be fixed.
