  1. Whenever I try to open a movie file with Quicktime Pro (latest version) that does not have the ".mov" extension the player will not open it and display the following error message:
"Error -2048: the file is not a movie file"
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Quicktime without success. Any fix? Thanks.

Silly question, but have you tried adding the .mov extension to the files?

It's probably telling you that you are trying to play a non-supported format, try playing the file with Media Player or Media Player Classic. Check the Quicktime setup and look for file associations and see if the extension is supported.
